Placement and Training Centre

The Placement and Training centre in UVCE carries on its back a reputation. It has been successful right from the day it was incepted way back in 1989. It was headed then by the visionary, Dr M Channa Reddy who took the initiative to make the career of every student in UVCE job guaranteed. He was the one who gave this office an organized structure and a shape. He was succeeded by Prof Sathyanarayana Makam, who was a class apart. It was during his tenure that the private companies started visiting campus for recruitments. It started slow but gained momentum as he took charge to revive it. Dr S Paul Vizhian took over from him in 2004. His was the regime when the placements in our college were at the top. The number of companies visiting our campus grew considerably high. He signed off from the office pretty successful. Now the reigns have been taken over by Dr P Deepa Shenoy.

Placement and Training Centre of a college is known to safeguard the professional careers of the career aspirant students by getting companies of various cadres into the college for recruitments. Apart from that, every event that happens in the college requires the help from the placement office. For the batch that passed out in 2007, 52 companies visited our campus with the placement percentage increasing to 80%. For 2008 batch, 68 companies came for hiring and 11 companies came for hiring interns. For 2009 batch,85 companies have come for hiring and 15 companies have come for internships . For 2010 batch, around 55 companies have visited the campus to select the bright students and the record is again around 95 % placement.

The college has excellent Industry-Institution interaction with all the reputed Global Companies visiting the campus, which include: Yahoo!, Alcatel Lucent, IBM, Cognizant, Nokia, Cisco, Samsung, Infosys, Wipro, EMC2, Motorola , SUN, MindTree, L&T(ECC, Powai), HCL, Vedanta, Tata Elxsi, Oracle, DELL, Avtec, Aditi Technologies, Kennametal, ITC Infotech, KOEL, ABB, Ashok Leyland, TVS Motors, BEL, Honeywell etc.

However the placement office in our college hasn't restricted itself to doing things mentioned above. It has excelled various other arenas such as organizing an entrepreneurship and technical fest. It was “INSPIRON “, Passion Unleashed. It was held on 11th and 13th of November, 2008. It was a massive success considering the amount of students who took part in it, the number of companies who had faith in us and bestowed the event with sponsorships, also the events, which turned out the way it was planned. Also it was a good move to instill the entrepreneurship and technical skills among the students as each student will have his own plans for succeeding in his career goals and the mentioned skills play a big and pivotal part in it.

INSIGHT-A Inner view of Recession and its Effect on Students, a Panel Discussion was organised by ”Placement and Training centre, UVCE” on 28th March 2009.The panel comprised of:

1.Mr H V Seetharam- Campus Ambassador, L&T Ltd
2.Mr Navin Sinha- CEO, Reinvent Software Solutions
3.Mr Gulshan- CAT Course Director, TIME
4.Mr Bhaskar H Rangaswamy- Sofware Engineer, IBM
5.Dr Venugopal K R- Principal, UVCE
6.Dr P Deepa Shenoy- Placement Officer, UVCE

Apart from these, Placement Officers from reputed colleges like- BIT, MSRIT, JSSATE, PESIT attended the discussion. The event was a great exposure to all students. The event helped them to understand the term RECESSION better, its effects and how to overcome it. It was a humble effort from Placement & Training Centre, UVCE to make everyone aware of the present scenario in industries.

We also tasted success in executing the idea of training the students in pre-final year for placements. All the necessary topics were taught and tests were conducted periodically so that students become novices in that particular genre and also make them feel comfortable about placements by overcoming their early jitters. The training was carried over a period of 15 days which was used to cover all aspects of placements, personality development, management skills and group tasks.

The new venture that the placement office has taken up is rigging up the infrastructure for conducting the placement process efficiently and smoothly. There is a separate concern coming up shortly which will be exclusively used for the placement purpose. It is equipped with two interview panels with state of the art facilities and also a generator to suffice for frequent power cuts. Other than that we have two more panels inside the office. Efforts have been measured and are taken to ensure smooth running of placement process. The need of the hour in interview panels now lies in furnishing it well. We are in the process of gathering the funds for it and the concern should be ready by August 2009. Such developmental works were undertaken by our senior batch coordinators too. They furnished the placement office with new furniture and got the carpentry work done for the office.
